dc.description.abstract | This document summarises the results obtained for the WP2 (TEFLU benchmark) of the ASCHLIM project. The main task of the benchmark was the assessment of the limitations of an eddy viscosity approach for HLM flows. The test case set-up and boundary conditions are described, highlighting some problems coming from the definition of inlet boundary conditions for turbulence quantities. A summary of the approaches followed and of the results obtained by each participant is then reported, making reference to the full reports annexed in the Appendix. Some general conclusions are drawn, as a synthesis of the conclusions reached by every participant. The main conclusion is that an approach based on the Reynolds analogy with Prt ∼ 1 is not able to simulate the correct temperature spreading rate of the TEFLU experiment, and, more in general, it is unsuitable for low Peclet number flows. Higher values of Prt, possibly as a function of local flow characteristics should be used, or higher order methods, not based on the Reynolds analogy. The tendency of two-equation models to overestimate the velocity spreading-rate is confirmed, even if definite conclusions about this point can not be drawn, due to the uncertainties in the inlet turbulence conditions. | IT |
